"this baby will live to be 120" *
* It's not just hype. New science could lead to very long lives.
Have you seen the above National Geographic Cover , May 2013?
I just brought two copies from our local public library, free, left by library patrons for anyone to take.
One cover has a cute oriental baby boy face and the other has
a black baby girl face with sweat smile - both on full cover.

"New clues to a long life" by Steven Hall, p28 is waiting for me to read.
------------
I came back from reading the above and dinner.
It's a collection of real-life stories of longevity. The most
striking part is p.37 human diagram. GHR gene mutation inhibits,
i.e.,100% reduction of diabetes and cancer. And CEPT gene mutation results in 69% reduction of Alzheimer's against control group.
-------------
More relevant to longevity and Google/Calico "moonshot" story
would be NIH Roadmap Epigenomics Program,
http://nihroadmap.nih.gov
Approximately $62 million will be awarded over the next 5 years
to study epigenome. "These award will address the extent to which diet and environmental exposures produce long lasting effects through changes in DNA regulation." - Francis Collins,
NIH Director.
DNA methylation is a fundamental epigenetic modification that regulates gene expression and chromosome stability. This and other epigenetic modifications control gene activity by changing 3 dimensional structures of chromosomes.
Government funding like these and private venture-capital firm
,Google/Calico seem very serious to me, resulting in something like "진시황의 불로초" out of modern science.
