만델라의 죽음을 애도하며 그리고 기념하며
그가 로빈 섬의 감옥에 27년이나 같여 있으면서, 당시 누구도 다시 나오리라고 예상도 못할 때 이 시를 같이 있는 죄수들에게 낭송해 주고 힘을 얻었다 합니다.
저도 가끔씩 힘이 없어지고, 인생의 향방이 희미해 질 때 이 시를 읽으며 힘을 얻습니다.

For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
