Process for registering a marriage in Korea with German spouse!

Are you preparing to register a marriage with a German spouse in Korea?

In order to get married in Korea, you need to be issued a document according to the following five steps.

Step 1: Issuance of 3 types of family relationship certificates of Korean spouse

The Korean District Office issues the following three certificates for Korean spouse.

- Family Relations Certificate

- Basic Certificate

- Certificate of Marriage Relationship

All three documents must be translated into German. Also documents must be either translated by a German certified translator or if you want to translate in Korea, the embassy must be notarized for the translated certificate. All three documents must get an Apostille, and submit documents to consulate with fee.

Step 2: Apply for German Marriage Certificate

You must apply for the German Marriage Certificate at your local Family Register Office in Germany. This certificate is a document proving that there are no obstacles to marriage under German law. and you must apply for it to the Family Registry Office of your jurisdiction.

Step 3: Apply for Declaration of Eligibility for Marriage

The above certificate can be applied at the Embassy Consulate for the purpose of submitting a District office.

To apply for a declaration of Eligibility for Marriage, each of two must visit the Consulate after advance booking with the following original documents.

-Two passports

-German marriage certificate

-3 Korean Family Relation Certificates with Apostille (follow Step 1)

>> A fee for certificate is 25euros, you can pay in cash or credit.

Step 4: Register marriage at the ward office (Korea Family Register Office)

Visit the District office and register marriage.

Step 5: Issue Apostille for marriage certificate

The German government office will accept it only when it has Apostille.

To submit it to German government office you need original certification also with notarized translated certification.
