Apositlle in Denmark

If a document issued by a Danish Authority is to be used abroad, it is necessary to have the document apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. Apostille is a means to confirm that a signature and stamp on the document are genuine and that the signatory is entitled to sign the document. Documents with an Apostille will be officially accepted when presented to an authority outside of Denmark.

Please note that documents with an Apostille are valid for legal purpose in all the countries that have ratified the Hague Apostille Convention and that documents to be used in the country that is not party to the Convention require an additional legalization by the Embassy of the country in question.

Some services that The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark offers have to be purchased online. So, you first need to order and pay for the Apostille service via webshop to obtain an Apostille on your document. Once the purchase is completed, you will receive a receipt. You can then attend the Legalization Office and hand in your document and the receipt from the webshop.

Before visiting the office, make sure that the document is the original one and that the signature on it is physical and manual signature by an official Danish authority. In addition, the signatory's name and position must be clearly stated in the document. If the document has been issued with a scan or copy of signature, it cannot be apostilled. Also, if you need to get an Apostille to a document by private individuals such as powers of attorney, it must first be notarized by a city court prior to requesting an Apostille.
