[Essay in My Heart]
A Person Who Becomes a Source of Support in Life
In life, there are times when it becomes difficult and challenging, and we urgently need the help of others. We may not always be aware of such things in our daily lives, but when we actually need assistance, it can be a daunting situation.
During these moments, if we naturally find someone who can offer help in our surroundings and receive the support we need, we may not fully realize how grateful we are. However, in most cases, once those moments pass, we tend to easily forget the help we received and continue with our lives.
Perhaps it's because people tend to think and act in a self-centered manner that I occasionally ponder upon this. However, the world is fair, and nothing comes for free. If we receive help from others, we should always remember the importance of repaying that help.
In a way, life can be seen as a continuous cycle of giving and receiving. For example, after inheriting many things (whether material or spiritual) from our parents, we pass them on to our children, whether we like it or not.
Finding something in this world that truly belongs to us is difficult in a strict sense. After all, aren't we just temporarily holding onto things, knowing that someday we will have to let them go? In terms of enhancing the efficiency of utilizing what we possess, be it material possessions, knowledge, or information, we should actively share them with our neighbors.
This brings to mind the spirit of “seeking truth from facts” or “being pragmatic” (实事求是) from the practical learning movement in the late Joseon Dynasty and the traditional value of mutual assistance (相扶相助) in society.
Alongside the efficient distribution and utilization of material wealth, one could argue that the distribution and efficient utilization of spiritual wealth play an equally important and meaningful role in living a continuously meaningful and fulfilling life.
Thinking back to the countless helping hands I have received during challenging and difficult times in my life, I am committed to making more proactive efforts to repay that help and become a source of support for others in their lives.
