Five Steps To Make Documents From Taipei Valid In Korea

2020.08.30

Hi, this is KICPC !
 How are you guys doing?!
Due to the sudden spread of corona virus, quarantine week has been started again here, in Korea

Hope you guys good wealth!

Today I am going to tell you how to get document from Taipei ready to be used in Korea!
If you are the one who have read my postings before you may know that the document cannot be valid itself in foreign countries! Document from Taipei are the same. It cannot be used in Korea till you take some steps.

The specific of that is as follows!

Because it is a matter between two countries, the very first step you need to take is issuance and translation. It is no surprise at all to translate all the Taiwanese in the document into Korean. Then you should notarize the translation. In other words, you should check whether the translation is faithful, so that you can attain the reliability on the translation.

After all that, you ought to get your document legalized, as the last step. Legalizing a document is confirming the genuineness of the document in easy terms.
There are normally two ways for legalization, which are apostille and embassy attestation.
Apostille is easier version of legalization than embassy attestation in that you only need to get a certification from the ministry of foreign affairs from the document-issuing country while you also need to get a reconfirmation on that from the document-receiving country when it comes to embassy attestation.

Sadly, for the matter of sending Taiwanese document to Korea, getting apostille to legalize is unavailable  . It is because apostille is only available when the both countries agree to Hague Convention abolishing requirements for legalization and Taipei is not the member of the Convention. Thus to legalize, you should get a certification on the authenticity of the document from the ministry of foreign affairs of Taiwan and a reconfirmation on that from the authority of Korean.

Usually, reconfirmation is processed by embassy.
However, Taipei is a little different!
To the countries with whom Taipei has no diplomatic relations or sever the relationships, embassy is replaced with ‘mission’. Thus to legalize, you should get a reconfirmation on the document from the Korean Mission in Taipei, not Korean Embassy

No matter embassy or mission, the thing that the whole procedure is complicated is not changed.
Still, you should look for a professional translator to translate all the words into Korean to not getting denied when notarizing. Also you must find a professional notary lawyer. After then, make a reservation with the ministry of foreign affairs and Korean mission in Taipei and wait for long.
