Public documents frequently need to be used abroad. In order to use a document in a country other than the one that issued it, it must be authenticated to prove that it’s not fraudulent, but genuine.
An Apostille, as a greatly simplified method that authenticate the origin of a document, can only be issued for documents issued in one country party to the Hague Apostille Convention and it is to be used in another country which is also a party to the Convention.
For example, since Italy and the Republic of Korea are part of the Convention, both countries will accept an Apostille.
