Fordham University 포덤 대학교 미국 뉴욕

포덤 대학교는 미국 뉴욕에 위치한 예수회 계열의 사립 대학이다. 1841년에 세인트 존스 칼리지로 가톨릭 뉴욕 주교에 의해 설립되어 1846년에 뉴욕의 인가를 받아 켄터키 세인트 메리 칼리지 등에서 예수회 교수가 초대되었다. 1907년 포덤 대학교로 개명하였다.

 Fordham was established in St. Louis. In 1841, John Hughes, the bishop of the parish of the New York Diocese, founded Jones College.It is the third oldest university in New York State and the first Catholic higher education institution in the northeastern United States.[8] In 1839, then 42, Hughes purchased a 106-acre Rosehill Manner Farm in Fordham Village, New York, for $29,750.[23] His intention was to establish St. Joseph Seminary after Mount Mary University, where he was an alumni.Robert Watts, a wealthy New York merchant, named it in 1787 to honor his family's ancestor's home in Scotland.
