In Hungary

For the purpose of foreign use of Hungarian documents, legalization procedures are divided into two cases based on the country where the documents will be used: Apostille and diplomatic legalization.

An Apostille will be issued regarding countries which are members of the Hague Apostille Convention, signed on 5 October 1961. Whereas, with respect to countries which have not joined the Convention, the diplomatic legalization will be carried out by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and then by the accredited mission of the target country in Hungary.

Requesting an Apostille In Hungary

The following organizations are competent for issuing an Apostille in Hungary:

• The Ministry of Justice - Documents issued by the Ministry of Justice or the courts.

• The Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries - Documents made by, or legalized by civil law notaries.

• The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade - Documents issued by other bodies such as birth certificate, certification of family status, criminal record, degree certificate.
